I had been a co-worker of the “Praise Church.” Since I believed in the Lord in 1988, I had believed that by listening to the leaders, I would surely be approved by God and go to heaven in the future, as they knew more things than others and had a rich knowledge of the Bible. So, whatever the upper leaders instructed me to do, I would listen to and obey it without the slightest negligence. In 1996, the leader said, “Now, there is a sect called the ‘Eastern Lightning,’ and it is very rampant. Anyone who has contact with its followers will be captivated. Now many people have turned to them. In future, we mustn’t receive any strangers…” Since then, I conveyed the leader’s “order” faithfully and took the lead to carry it out in the church. An unfamiliar sister came to preach God’s work of the last days to me many times, and each time she came, she helped me with the field work. Yet I either avoided her or said harsh words to insult her. But that didn’t stop her from coming to preach to me persistently. Once, when we were having a meeting, she came again. I abused her before all others, “Get away, you devil! I bind Satan in the name of the Lord!” With that, I pushed and shoved her out of the door together with several other believers, and I threw her bike in a deep puddle by the roadside. In the end, she picked it up with the help of the unbelievers. Just in that way, with the leader’s instruction “don’t receive strangers” kept in my mind, I shut the door on God’s salvation of the last days time and time again. However, what happened later greatly exceeded my expectation.

Once, the leader and I went together to visit a church. We went to a host family and the sister received us warmly. She bought a big chunk of meat and cooked it for dinner. The leader was very happy and said to me, “You see, if you are tireless in running the race, your appetite will be satisfied.” I was stunned at that. I had never expected that the leader I looked up to could say such a word. “Do we visit the churches just to eat good food?” Later, we went to a host family of another church. The sister served us an ordinary meal. At night, when we were going to rest, the leader said to me, “You see, this church doesn’t have any love at all. We won’t have meetings with them in future. The host family in the northern part served us well…” Later, the leader really didn’t care for those churches any more. Seeing what she did, I became so weak that I didn’t even want to attend meetings. But I was afraid of offending her, so I had to force myself to hold on.

They always preach and have meetings in a sneaky way….” On the strength of such words, I vehemently resisted and blasphemed Almighty God’s work of the last days in the church, hindered the brothers and sisters from contacting the preachers of the “Eastern Lightning,” and reviled,unfavorable slandered, and drove away them many times. I thought, “If their God is the true God and their way is the true way, they should preach publicly in a big way. Who will not believe in the true God? Since they preach in secret for fear of being discovered by others, they cannot be doing anything good. As the saying goes, ‘Anything good won’t be hidden from others, and anything hidden from others cannot be good.’ And if they really beat and disable those who refuse to accept their belief, and also commit adultery, this further shows that they are heresy and a mafia.” So, I warned the brothers and sisters to “keep at a respectable distance” from the people of the “Eastern Lightning.”

In 1997, our family believed in the Lord Jesus (The Great Light Church) due to my mother’s sickness. My mother got healed miraculously after that. Thereafter, encouraged by the love of the Lord, we went here and there preaching the gospel, giving witness to the wonderful deeds of the Lord Jesus. It gave a good result. And I, out of fervent pursuit, was chosen as a church deacon later and began to go around the churches preaching and shepherding.

In 1998, we heard that there were people preaching the “Eastern Lightning” in our local area. For this, the deacon above stressed that no meeting place or believer was allowed to receive any stranger, and whoever did so would surely be punished. He asked us church deacons to carry out the measures against its deception in the churches and ensure that they were safely protected. “The Bible has prophesied that there will appear false Christs in the last days,” he said, “and the ‘Eastern Lightning’ preachers are the imposters to steal the sheep. They are malicious. They use beauty and other means to entice people into their trap and swindle them out of all their property, bringing their families to ruin. Once a person joins this ‘mafia,’ he cannot possibly be pulled out.” I believed what he said without any doubts and lost no time to convey it to the churches. I went every believer’s home to warn and frighten them by saying that whoever disobeyed the church rules would be doomed to suffer punishments and lose his share of God’s grace.

In 1999, we received a sermon (given periodically in the Church) against the “Eastern Lightning” from the above, which said, “The people of the ‘Eastern Lightning’ believe in a false Christ and have departed from the Bible. They preach only to talented men and beautiful and intelligent women to commit adultery with them. They lure people to accept their way with money and beauty. If you don’t believe their way after listening to their message, they will break your arms or legs or even gouge out your eyes or cut off your nose. If you join them, you can never get out and your family will be ruined in the end.” Hearing it, all the brothers and sisters were very frightened and began to hate the “Eastern Lightning” bitterly. I had never doubted the sermons from the above. So I considered that the charges of the “Eastern Lightning” were unquestionable and any of them was sufficient to condemn the “Eastern Lightning” as a “heresy,” a “cult.” And I drew the conclusion in my heart: They are not believers in God at all; it’s a false Christ coming to deceive people in the last days. Since then, I tightened controls on the churches. I went around the churches every few days and wildly resisted, condemned, and blasphemed Almighty God and His work of the last days among the brothers and sisters.

My name is Liu Feng. I had been a deacon of a branch of the True Jesus Church.

Soon, I was informed by one who spied that the people of the “Lightning” went to a sister’s house. We immediately acted and resolved to catch them. Sitting in the car, I was very happy, thinking, “It is really a great honor and pride that I can charge forward in stopping the disturbance of the ‘heresy!’” I kept praying in my heart, asking God to curse the preachers of the “Eastern Lightning” and destroy all of them lest the lambs be deceived and the church suffer loss… However, we missed them when we arrived there. I felt it was a great pity?

It is Almighty God’s great grace and mercy that I can have today. According to my past doings, I didn’t deserve God’s salvation but only His curse. I condemned and blasphemed God’s new work of the last days, and shadowed and spied on its preachers, attempting to stop the spreading of Almighty God’s gospel and put all those preachers to death. However, God didn’t treat me according to my evils but saved me to the utmost. So that, I, who had bitterly struggled in evils, returned to God’s family at last.
